With Mexico set to host next year’s FIFA World Cup, aviation service providers are preparing for what they describe as “unprecedented” levels of business aviation traffic during the tournament. A total of 13 matches will be held across Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara, attracting millions of visitors.

The month-long tournament, widely considered the world’s most-watched sporting event, will kick off on June 11, 2026, in Mexico City. According to ICCS, one of Mexico’s leading FBO operators, early projections estimate around 4 million visitors will travel to the country for the event. This surge is expected to strain capacity at host city airports, leading to congested runways, slot restrictions, and limited availability of ground handling, fueling, and ramp space.

Planning Ahead for Private Operators

Private aircraft operators are being urged to begin planning immediately by:

  • Contacting FBO providers for handling and parking coordination

  • Arranging essential services such as hotels, catering, ground transport, and security

  • Identifying alternate and overflow airports in advance

  • Starting permit applications early, as Mexico is known for lengthy processing times

The final tournament schedule will be released in December, after which airport authorities are expected to issue official slot rules and operating procedures.

ICCS Expands Facilities Ahead of the Event

ICCS announced that it will support operators at all three host cities, with a new FBO at Toluca International Airport (MMTO)—the main general aviation gateway to Mexico City—set to be operational before the tournament.

“The 2026 FIFA World Cup represents the most significant operational challenge in Mexico’s business aviation history,” said Nelson Dumas, CEO of ICCS. “With our expanded facilities, unmatched ramp capacity, and more than three decades of expertise, we are ready to deliver world-class service to every operator, passenger, and crew member during this global event.”
